Abstract. Based on 2D/3D standard resolution seismic (SR), 2D high (HR) and ultra-high (UHR) resolution seismic, sub-bottom profiling (SBP) and multibeam echosounder (MBES) data, paleovalleys and paleodepressions were identified in the southern-west part of the Kara Sea. Three paleovalleys generations formed in result of presumably fluvial, fluvio-glacial and exaration processes in Pliocen(?)-Quaternary period were detected. In the process of a detailed analysis of the internal structure of paleovalleys, it was revealed that most of them (more than 60%) are characterized by a U-shaped form, which may be due both to the predominance of lateral erosion processes in calm tectonic conditions and to the primary role of glaciers that probably existed in the research area in the late Quaternary period [Zamotina et. al., 2023a; Rybalko et. al., 2020; Svendsen et al., 2004]. In the area of the northern part of the West Kara Stage and the Yamalo-Gydan Shoal, paleovalleys with signs of permafrost deposits were found, as well as presumably thermokarst paleodepressions, which may indicate that the part of the area under consideration was not covered by a glacier at the maximum of the last glaciation. Based on 3D SR data, a significant restructuring of the paleovalleys network was revealed in the area of the southwestern part of the Kara Sea shelf. Keywords: paleovalleys, paleodepressions, Last Glacial Maximum, thermokarst, seismic, shelf, Kara Sea
