Abstract. This paper outlines and reviews the existing hypotheses of the formation of the Poozerie ridge in the Novgorod district of the Novgorod region. Various levels of the proglacial lake and ancient Ilmen Lake have been reconstructed, with the position of the ridge shown in each reconstruction. A theoretical possibility that the Pra-Volkhov River flowed in the reverse direction has been analyzed. It has been demonstrated that during the Holocene, Lake Ilmen occupied a lower level compared to the modern one. The data on the sedimentary composition of the Poozerie ridge is supplemented with personal field observations.

Keywords: esker, incision delta, glaciofluvial landforms, proglacial lake, proglacial lake outburst
